CM B.S Yeddyurappa announced about including Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and making Tulu as a major language in the state. He spoke after inaugurating the ‘World Tulu Conference-2009’ here at Shree Rathnavarma Heggade Stadium on Thursday.
CM Yeddyurappa poured paddy to ‘Kalasige’ and inaugurated the convention which recalled the great culture of our Tulunadu.
I am really grateful to all Tuluva people for giving me an opportunity to inaugurate such a marvelous program, he said.
There are around 1.25 crore Tulu people including 75lakhs from Coastal Districts. Tulu is a very unique region of our country. Acharya tradition is providing a huge contribution to our religion, he appreciated.
Rajashree, Kavander Dr D Veerendra Heggade, the president of World Tulu Convention welcome committee delivered the welcome speech and greeted everyone. Later he requested to CM that areca-nut farmers of here should be given with the support price. Dr Heggade also spoke about the motto of organizing such a well planned convention never ever in Tulu history.
Tuluvas are also contributing a great share in the total income generated by the state government. So out of that tax amount collected, a separate share should be kept aside for the benefit of Tuluvas, he opined.
Dr Amrutha Someshwara presided over the program. Home Minister Dr V S Acharya released ‘Kodipu’ a memento. M P Nalin Kumar Kateel released a memento named ‘Paddeyi’. Honorable Former Central Minister Shree Oscar Fernandez inaugurated the ‘Tulu Village’. Tulu Food Festival was inaugurated by Shree Kinyakka Urs of Padubidri Palace.

Kumari Sandhya Rani released the special post cover. Honorable District Incharge Minister Shree Krishna J Palemar inaugurated the folk exhibition. Dr Palthady Ramakrisna Achar, the president of Karnataka Tulu Literature Academy inaugurated the book shops.
