Fisherwomen to hold protest rally on Nov 25

Mahila Meenu Marata Horata Samithi, a forum of fisherwomen will organize a protest rally demanding closing down of the fish sale counter set up by Karnataka Fisheries Development
Corporation (KFDC) in Urva Chilimbi here on Wednesday.
Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Samithi convener Sathish Bykampady said around 1,000 fishermen and women from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts would take part in the protest rally.
Hadinalku Patna Mogaveera Samyuktha Sabha, the traditional body of the fishermen community and the district unit of Ahinda have extended support to the rally. The rally would begin at Bavuta Gudde and pass through Dr Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle, Hampanakatta to culminate at the deputy commissioner's office where a public meeting would be held, he said.
Expressing reservations over the KFDC venturing to set up the fish sales counters, Sathish said this would directly affect the livelihood of the fisherwomen who were relying on the fish sale for their livelihood. KFDC was originally formed to design and implement the schemes to protect the interests of the fishermen and achieve their welfare. But unfortunately, KFDC was coming out with schemes, which would snatch away the livelihood of the poor fishermen and women and ruin their lives. KFDC managing committee had also resorted to file false complaints against the fishermen and women who were opposing setting up sales counters, he accused.
